The Concert Room remembers Ozzy Osbourne - Black Sabbath Symptom of the Universe live in Asbury Park, NJ

The Concert Room is a podcast session dedicated to the performances, performers, bands, and artists who played on the stage at the legendary Philadelphia Spectrum Arena. The Spectrum held numerous concerts over its 40 plus years of existence, earning the nickname America Showplace. And today I'm going to do uh one of honoring and remembering Ozzie Osborne, who passed from us on July 22nd.

0:39 It's been a really rough week losing Ozzie. Seems uh kind of all of a sudden. And uh it's it's very sad, but his legacy is uh not going to be matched by anyone and will be remembered forever. We're blessed he uh left us with such a vast array of music and uh pop culture we can enjoy. So uh this session will feature a live performance by Black Sabbath, a performance at the Asbury Park, New Jersey Convention Hall in 1975. If you saw Ozzy live with either Sabbath or on a solo tours, you were lucky.

1:15 And uh I'm sure the concert stands out as a favorite memory. So, speaking of, let's get to this featured performance. Now, again, I've queued up a fan favorite taken from the Asbury Park show in 1975. Uh so why Asbury Park in this recording? Uh, probably a few reasons. A lot of the recorded material of Sabbath at the Spectrum. Uh, they played the Spectrum 13 times. Um, which kind of goes hand in hand with Black Sabbath, Lucky 13th. A lot of those recordings are really not that great quality. Uh and this show at the Convention Center is regarded as the best show of that tour.

1:56 And uh actually it is recorded by many um as the best recording uh in all of Sabbath's tour. Um a lot of those recordings here at Asbury Park ended up on the album Past Lives, and uh in fact this track that I'm gonna play for you uh did actually make it on that album. So again, this performance is on uh August 5th, 1975. They played the Spectrum actually the next night on 8. Uh so there is a tie-in here with the uh Spectrum. Uh now it would have been nice if that concert was recorded, but uh we should be thankful that uh it was recorded.

Um, it's that great. Okay, so here we go, let's get to it. The song is Symptom of the Universe. It is recorded live in Asbury Park, New Jersey on August fifth, nineteen seventy-five.

7:57 God, that sounded great. They were particularly on fire that night. So again, let's be thankful it was recorded. I think they were really peeking. And uh again, we thank Ozzy for his life of music and letting it letting us come into his world and uh sharing everything. He will be uh surely missed. So I hope you enjoyed the session.
