SPEAKER_02: Hey everybody, welcome back to the concert room. I'm your host, Bob Hill. The concert room is a podcast session dedicated to concert performances, performers, bands, and artists who played on the stage at the legendary Philadelphia Spectrum Arena and all of the surrounding venues in the Philadelphia area back in the heyday years of concerts and shows. Okay, thanks for joining me. Got a great show lined up. Gonna do a little bit of house cleaning first. This is the last show that we'll do on season two.
SPEAKER_02: We'll just wrap it up. And it's been just absolutely a great time and a great season and some great shows. And please go back and listen to some of these shows, some interviews, great performances from across all the venues in the Philadelphia area. The Spectrum Concerts will always be the anchor on the show. Uh, but we do like to spread it out because there's just so many great concerts and shows and archives for all the venues in our area. And I kind of think it shows also that we grew up in an era of the concerts and we had so many choices and venues in the city and around the city that hosted local bands, national act in the Philadelphia area.
SPEAKER_02: And I really appreciate all the downloads and friends and comments that I've had. Thank all my guests, and I just am really thankful that people are tuning in and hopefully enjoying it. If you were uh of age like I am, you went to all the concerts back in the day, regardless of what city you're in. I hope this brings back some great memories because keep in mind, just because I'm talking about the Philadelphia area, the Spectrum, the Tower, all these shows, these bands that I'm featuring are they were on tour and chances are they hit your city.
SPEAKER_02: So the kind of show that I'm featuring on my end here in the uh Spectrum, uh, chances are you saw the same show in your city and it brings back great memories. And I hope that really that was my goal. You know, help you remember how great it was at a time in these uh heyday days of concerts. I really hope this brings back a lot of great memories of seeing uh your favorite band uh or artist in concert. And uh let's get to today's show. Now, again, we're wrapping up season two. I kinda got some exciting news.
SPEAKER_02: Check this out. This I'm not sure if you heard, but there was a there's a contest and it's going on right now. And it's produced with iHeartRadio in conjunction with Ryan Seacrest. And it is a nationwide contest where contestants can sign up and submit their info to be considered for an opportunity to lead a six-episode podcast professionally produced by iHeartRadio to be a guest on an episode of On Air with Ryan Seacrest, and also take home twenty-five thousand dollars. And it's it's pretty exciting.
SPEAKER_02: So I submitted my information uh a couple weeks ago, and I made it through the first round. They kind of put you in, I don't know if how many people are in a group, but the top twenty in the first round would advance, and it's all vote-based. So I got enough votes to be uh ten or eleven inside that twenty in the first round, which is great and very exciting. So I moved on to the second round, and the second round uh actually ended uh the other night, and I was tenth in the second round, and the top fifteen would move on there, and I made it to the second round.
SPEAKER_02: So now I am in the third round of this nationwide contest to win this contest, and it's been really, really exciting. And I want to thank everybody who voted for me. And the way the voting really counts is everybody gets one free vote, like your friends, families, listeners, uh send them the link and they can just click on, and really it's just a verification that uh it's through Facebook or your tele uh I was gonna say telephone. Um that's how old I am. Your uh your text, you know, they'll send you a text if you submit your phone number.
SPEAKER_02: And uh that they just want to verify that you're a real person, so your vote, your free vote would count there. Now there are other voting uh tiers that you can vote for ten votes, and that uh actually is ten dollars. Twenty votes, twenty dollars, it's etcetera. So in ten ten dollar increments. Now, if you want to buy ten votes, twenty votes, ten dollars, twenty dollars, that money actually goes to Ryan Secret's charity. And that charity is uh builds interactive media studios and children's hospitals nationwide.
SPEAKER_02: That's a great charity, so your money doesn't just go into anybody's pockets. It is this contest is tied to uh Ryan Seacrest's charity. So the contest winner it's uh twenty-five thousand dollars, six episode iHeartRadio podcast produced by them, and uh also you can be a guest on air with Ryan Seacrest, and it is on right now. I'm gonna obviously put a link down, and if you feel that you wanted to uh either donate money to that and I can get votes, that's great. Or you can just click on you know one free vote, and that's wonderful because now I have moved on to the third round, but just to be in the top twenty and then in the top fifteen in this last round is so exciting, and it's it's just I can't tell you how exciting it is uh doing this.
SPEAKER_02: So uh I really appreciate again you downloading and listening to my show. Okay, business, it's done. Let's get today's performance. I mentioned the Tower Theater. I recently found this pretty cool performance and thought it was uh a good idea to do this because I was looking at all the genres that I have featured in the past two seasons, and I have not featured a southern rock band. So I am going to feature today my favorite Southern Rock band out of that genre, and that is the Outlaws. Now the Outlaws kind of separate themselves from their Southern Rock peers.
SPEAKER_02: When you think of Southern Rock, of course you think of the big ones Stallman Brothers, Skinner, you could put 38 Special on there, Blackfoot, They're out of Florida, great Southern band, and of course the Outlaws. Their sound obviously is steeped in Southern Rock, which fuses country blues and like blues rock, but and like their peers, they have a three-guitar attack. But this band also blends different types of melodies with their uh beautiful guitar work and their tones. So I think they kind of separate themselves a little bit more than their southern rock peers, uh at least to me.
SPEAKER_02: So a little bit more variety with them. Their musicianship is just absolutely spectacular. Great vocals, great melodies, great harmonies, which it's kind of different for a Southern Rock band, but um again, there's just a little bit more variety. Of course, their epic songs are about rebellion, freedom, and life on the road, again with Searing Guitar Solos, and that is why they are my favorite Southern Rock band. And I actually just picked up the vinyl album of their debut, The Outlaws, uh, for my local record shop on Record Store Day, and that was kind of recently.
SPEAKER_02: And it's an album that I play frequently. So let's get to this performance. I've queued up. This is uh The Outlaws. I mentioned the Tower Theater, they rolled into Upper Derby, which is where the Tower Theater is, to play two nights at the Tower Theater on June 29th, 1982, and then on June 30th, 1982. And they were currently on the Los Ambres Melo Tour. Now the June 30th show was televised by MTV and later preserved on DVD, and it's really, really great. It's out there on YouTube. Uh go out and check it out.
SPEAKER_02: I'll obviously put a link to it and uh the tower, again, I I reiterate this every time I talk about the tower theater, it was such a great, great venue to play and record. Their 1975 hit, There Goes Another Love Song on that debut album. That was a hit in 1975, and of course, a staple in their live shows. In fact, this great song, one of my favorite by any band of any genre, is the last song of the night in the set, and I think it's a really a perfect choice to showcase them in today's session. This is really one of my favorite songs.
SPEAKER_02: It's called There Goes Another Love Song. So let's get to it. Here's the Outlaws on the Tower stage, June 30th, 1982, closing out a great night of tunes to another sold-out Philly crowd. Enjoy.
SPEAKER_01: One of the best, one of the real cities in the whole world.
SPEAKER_02: Great night of tunes. Philly crowds always bring it, make the band feel loved and appreciate it, and that night is uh no exception. They really sounded great. Um sorry I never had the opportunities to see the Outlaws back in the day, but again, I'm thankful to have these performances captured both on audio and video. I hope you enjoyed this, and thanks again for tuning in. Uh and again, please go out and vote. Uh, you do get a free vote on this iHeartRadio Podcast hosting contest. Again, it's been really exciting.
SPEAKER_02: I'm moving on to the third round, and uh again it's free, you get a free vote, and you never know. Can't win if you don't play. And uh, I appreciate so much you're taking the time to listen to my shows and feel free to go out on my website, leave a comment, if you have an idea for a show or even a guest, if you represent a guest or uh you are somebody that might be able to contribute to my show, please reach out and I'll be glad to set something up and we can talk. Absolutely. And don't forget to subscribe and tell a friend, that will wrap it up for season two, and I'll see you in season three in the concert room.
